Most of you will know that Aviva (AKA Norwich Union) is one of the biggest insurance companies, providing 31 million customers worldwide with insurance, savings and investment products. They are well known for sponsoring Norwich Football Club and the UK Premiership Rugby Union as well as having a passion for charity fundraising.
Aviva Community Fund
Aviva have set up the 'Aviva Community Fund' which has been designed to make a positive impact on our local communities. The Aviva Community Fund lets Aviva contribute to causes that matter to us by funding projects that will make a difference in our community. The fund will finance over 362 entries across four different fund levels and four categories, providing awards to communities all over the UK.
Our Entry
Aviva are seeking projects that will make a positive stamp on a community as well being associated with a community organisation or charity that will take place in the UK. As Leeway is a UK based charity which helps women that have been affected by domestic abuse, we saw this as a great opportunity to try and receive the funding we need for our drop-in sessions programme. This programme will offer confidential advice and support to women who have experienced domestic abuse as well as providing them with advice on debt management, housing and legal issues.
The drop-in sessions will be located in places that won't raise suspicion such as libraries and doctors surgeries. They will also be based in areas where recent welfare reform has had an impact on women who are at risk of abuse. They will be run by our specialist outreach workers and will give isolated and frightened women the opportunity to seek the support they need to alter their lives and improve their health and wellbeing.
How to vote
By securing enough votes from friends, family and supporters, we could be entered into the finals, this is where a judging panel will award the funds. We have entered ourselves into the Health, Disability and Wellbeing project category and have chosen the 'up to £5,000' funding level as this will provide us with the money we need to start our programme. It is really easy to vote, all you have to do is register via the Aviva Community Fund
page and then search,
Leeway. You have 10 votes to use, either spreading them over many different projects or just the one. So far we have over 600 votes, but the more we receive the better chance of winning and changing women's lives in Norfolk.
Every vote counts and we appreciate the support from all of you; the closing date for voting is the 30th May, so spread the word!
