Volunteering: How You Can Help Us to Help Others

01 February 2016

Over the past twelve months, Leeway has been able to support over 8,000 adults and children in Norfolk. Much of this support comes in the form of our drop-in centres, outreach services and refuge services. However, like many other charities in the UK, we are only able to continue this work as a result of the generous donations – both financial and time – from the local community.

Every year we organise a wide range of fundraising events; the success of which is heavily dependent on our dedicated group of events and fundraising volunteers. From helping with collection buckets at local supermarkets to assisting with our sponsored events, there are so many ways that you can help us make a difference.

How Do Volunteers Help Our Work?

  • By contributing their experience, skills and knowledge to our work.
  • By strengthening our voice in the local community.
  • By attracting match-funding for volunteers hours when we apply for grants.
  • By enabling us to support more people suffering as a result of domestic abuse.

Who Are We Looking For?

Whilst previous experience of managing events and fundraising is always welcome, it is far from essential. We are always on the lookout for people who are:

  • Enthusiastic
  • Friendly
  • Keen to get involved and make a difference
  • Reliable
  • Flexible
  • A team player

You do not need to offer us a minimum amount of your time and your level of commitment will depend entirely on the event you are supporting. With a busy calendar, we are confident you will find something which suits both your schedule and ours.

How Can You Help?

There are many ways in which you can assist us. Our volunteer roles include:

  • Admin and office work.
  • Fundraising and events.
  • Helping with our website and social media.
  • Collating and distributing donations and gifts received.
  • Working with the women and children in our refuges and community based outreach teams
  • Befriending.

Where Can You Volunteer?

At present we provide our services in the following areas and are therefore looking for volunteers who are able to operate within these localities:

  • Norwich
  • Great Yarmouth
  • Broadland
  • King’s Lynn
  • Waveney District

What Support and Training Do We Offer You?

Before taking part in any of our events you will receive a structured introduction to Leeway and the work which we do – this includes full Domestic Abuse Awareness training. In addition to that, you will also receive ongoing day to day support from a member of our fundraising team. Where you incur expenses, such as travelling costs, we will cover those which have been agreed in advance.

If you would like more information about volunteering with Leeway, we would love to hear from you. You can speak to our volunteer recruiter and trainer, Judi Rafferty, by emailing info@leewaynwa.org.uk
