The Makers Festival is a 15-day event taking place in the Forum, Norwich, from the 9th to the 24th February 2019. The festival aims to get people involved with arts and crafts activities and try their hands at something new: weaving, printing, painting, knitting, sketching, crochet, crafting, spinning, sculpting and embroidery are all listed as activities on the festival website. There are also workshops, talks and exhibitions as part of the festival. All the decorated ribbons from our White Ribbon Window Campaign will be on display too throughout the month.
White Ribbon Window Campaign
To coincide with the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women, on the 25th November, the ribbons were displayed in the windows of businesses and organisations throughout the city, raising awareness of domestic abuse. Altogether, there were 38 ribbons decorated by artists, service users and community groups as part of the campaign. All the ribbons from the campaign will be on display at the Makers Festival and there will be opportunities for you to create your own ribbons.
Get Involved
Leeway will have a stall at the Makers Festival between the 14th and 18th of February, giving people the chance to decorate a white ribbon card. We’ll supply a variety of different pens, crayons, glues, wool and textiles for people to decorate their ribbons. This activity is completely free for all to have a go. Take inspiration from one of the large ribbons on display!
There are lots of activities available throughout the festival – check out the full list of events and activities.
We hope that the White Ribbon Campaign will continue to raise awareness of domestic abuse during 2019. If anyone would like to get involved, please contact fundraising@leewaynwa.org.uk.
